Message from the 2022 WPDC Program Chair

The title of the 71st Western Poultry Disease Conference is “Poultry Diseases of Concern in Modern Production Systems”. Within the last decade, the North American poultry industry has been challenged with a reemergence of several avian diseases that were traditionally of minor economic importance to welfare and production systems. Poultry producing regions have reported an increased detection of several transmissible diseases in commercial poultry flocks within recent years. These diseases have led to challenges in the field and have forced us to reevaluate the control and prevention strategies implemented by the industry.

For this meeting, we are requesting titles and 150-word summaries. Oral and poster presentations will be selected from the submission pool and all chosen presentations will be included in the 71st annual WPDC Proceedings. This year we invite poultry disease experts that can provide insight into infectious diseases currently challenging the poultry industry. The WPDC committee would like to invite all interested presenters including poultry clinicians, diagnosticians, graduate students, residents and veterinary students to submit summaries that may be applicable for this meeting. Additionally, detailed instructions will be provided to those whose titles are accepted.

We are excited to return to an in-person meeting for the 2022 WPDC and ACPV Workshop which will be held from April 3rd to April 6th, in Vancouver B.C., Canada. With great enthusiasm, as Program Chair, I invite you to the 71st WPDC and look forward to seeing you in-person next year.
