AAAP Foundation Poultry Scholarship Criteria and Application

The American Association of Avian Pathologists Foundation Scholarship Program accepts scholarship applications from students who are pursuing a career in poultry health and well-being and/or food safety in North America. Eligible students should attend a veterinary college accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association, or an accredited undergraduate university.  Students must meet one of the following educational criteria to be considered:

Student Educational Criteria

  1. Enrollment in a university undergraduate curriculum involving avian science, poultry science, food science, animal science, biology, or equivalent with the intent to pursue a MS, PhD, or veterinary degree with a focus on poultry health and well-being and/or food safety; OR

  2. Enrollment in a veterinary college or graduate school leading to a DVM or VMD degree focused on poultry health and well-being and/or food safety.

Scholarships will be awarded based on assessment of the following credentials.

  1. Academic record (provide complete official transcripts from academic institutions).

  2. Letters of recommendation provided by two persons (at the request of the applicant) who are knowledgeable about the applicant and his or her career goals; submitted by the writer and separate from the application. Letters of recommendation may be emailed to aaap@aaap.info or mailed to the AAAP office: 12627 San Jose Blvd., Suite 202, Jacksonville, FL  32223-8638.

  3. Experience related to poultry health and well-being and/or poultry food safety; and

  4. A brief essay (500 words or less) describing career goals.

Amount of Scholarship                                                                        

Scholarships will not exceed $1,000.  Undergraduate scholarships will not exceed $500.

Scholarships may be renewed by reapplying if funding is available and student demonstrates satisfactory performance.

Common Application
The AAAP Foundation Poultry Scholarship, the AAAP Foundation/Merck Animal Health Veterinary Student Scholarship, and the AAAP Foundation/Elanco Memorial Scholarship use a common application form.  Students applying for one or more of these scholarships will indicate the scholarship(s) for which they are applying at the beginning of the application form.  Please complete only one application form.
