Legislative Advisory Committee

Mission Statement

The AAAP Legislative Advisory Committee assists the AAAP Board of Directors in forming AAAP’s policies and positions on federal regulations and regulatory proposals that impact the membership.  They also communicate these policies and positions to federal agencies and legislators.

Committee Charge:

  • To establish one legislative voice for all of AAAP.
  • To ensure that the needs and concerns of all AAAP’s membership are incorporated into AAAP’s policies and positions.
  • To act as a communication vehicle between the various AAAP membership groups and the Board of Directors.
  • To develop a procedure to formulate AAAP policies on legislative and regulatory matters of concern to the membership and to assist the Board of Directors in forming AAAP’s policies and positions on these matters of concern.
  • To integrate the needs and concerns of all the AAAP membership into recommendations to the Board of Directors that represents the best interest of AAAP.
  • To act as a communication vehicle between the AAAP LAC and the AVMA LAC.
  • To assist in the implementation of the Board of Directors approved legislative and regulatory agenda by contacting federal officials and staff via email, phone, fax and /or personal visits while in Washington, CD and/or the home district.


Committee Composition:

  1. The AAAP Legislative Advisory Committee will be chaired by AAAP’s representative on the AVMA Legislative Advisory Committee.  The alternate to that committee will also serve on AAAP’s LAC. Their terms on the AAAP LAC will match their service as AAAP’s representative on the AVMA Legislative Advisory Committee.
  2. A member from each of the following groups will serve on the AAAP LAC:
  • Association of Layer Veterinarians

  • Association of Broiler Veterinarians

  • Association of Turkey Veterinarians

  • Association of Breeder Veterinarians

  • AAAP Research Priorities Committee

    They will serve for a term of three years.

  1. The LAC will have three members from the AAAP Board of Directors whose term on the committee will match their term on the Board of Directors. They will consist of the President, the President-Elect and the Executive Vice President.
