Continuing Education (CE) Requirements for Annual and 10-year Recertification
ACPV Policy for Dues Payments and CE Submissions Timeline:
January 1: Dues and previous year CE submission due. February 1: Dues are late. A late fee of $75 is added to the dues payment. Any Diplomate whose dues payment is in arrears 2 years or more will be removed from the College. April 1: CE for previous year is no longer accepted.
Ten Year Recertification:
- Diplomates must meet the annual recertification requirements for at least 8 years out of 10 consecutive year period (based on their admittance in the college).
- A diplomate failing to meet the 8 of 10-year requirements will be required to retake the current ACPV examination.
Annual CE Submission General Guidelines and Requirements
- Diplomates who have not submitted CE by the April 1 deadline must claim an exempt year.
- ACPV policy is to accept the Diplomate’s annual CE submissions unless the Diplomate is notified by the College after review.
- Each diplomate must obtain 24 CE contact hours by attendance at educational activities.
- A minimum of 14 CE contact hours must be from an educational activity devoted to poultry.
- CE credits must be submitted on a 1:1 basis (1 CE credit per contact hour of educational activity) OR on a .5:1 basis for professional development activities. Only CE from scientific/educational activities that developed or enhanced the Diplomate’s knowledge, skills and abilities as a poultry veterinarian will be submitted.
- Annual requirements may be waived for individuals based on medical or other disability. A claim for a waiver must be submitted with annual renewal. Waivers are granted by the ACPV Board of Governors.
Continuing Education Submission (Minimum 14 hours CE)
- ACPV Preapproved Meetings. See the ACPV Preapproved Meetings list (below) to find the maximum number of CE hours that can be claimed for attending ACPV preapproved meetings.
- Other Poultry Meetings. Poultry related meetings not listed may also be claimed for CE. An agenda or program must be uploaded as part of the CE submission. Unlisted meetings are considered on a case-by-case basis and may not be approved. When calculating the number of hours to claim for CE, consider only the number of hours attending the actual session. Do not include lunch breaks, session breaks, social events, etc.
- AAAP or ACPV-sponsored webinars. The number of credit hours claimed are CE unit-dependent depending on the webinar.
- Organized Poultry-Related Seminars. Organized poultry-related seminars, such as those at a university, can be submitted for CE. If more than 3 CE hours for a seminar is claimed, the seminar agenda or a summary of topics must be uploaded as part of the CE submission. Seminars are considered on a case-by-case basis and may not be approved.
- Company-sponsored educational meetings. Agendas from a company-sponsored meetings must be uploaded as part of the CE submission. These types of activities are considered on a case-by-case basis and may not be approved.
Scholarly Activities (Maximum 10 hours CE)
A maximum of 10 hours of CE can be claimed for the following scholarly activities.
- Organizing an ACPV-sponsored workshop. 6 CE
- Organizing a poultry-related seminar/webinar, or symposium other than ACPV-sponsored. 4 CE
- Senior author in peer-reviewed avian journal. 4 CE
- Author or co-author in books and manuals (poultry-related). 4 CE
- Producer or co-producer of educational poultry videos or study sets. 4 CE
- Co- author in peer-reviewed avian journal. 3 CE
- Invited peer-review of poultry-associated scientific journal manuscript. 2 CE
- Author or coauthor in newsletter, trade magazine, technical bulletin. 1 CE
Professional Development Activities (Maximum 6 hours CE)
A maximum of 6 hours of CE can be claimed for professional development activities. (Professional development activities do not satisfy the requirement for 14 hours of poultry related CE activities.) ½ credit is given for every contact hour. These activities include, but are not limited to media training, writing/communication workshops and non-poultry health/welfare seminars/webinars/conferences. Additional professional development activities that are acceptable can be submitted if they are in alignment with the ACPV Exam Blueprint. For instance, a course in statistics could be submitted for credit as statistics is listed as a KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) on the blueprint. Proof of attendance must be submitted as part of the CE submission to obtain credit. These types of activities are considered on a case-by-case basis and may not be approved. |
