Arturo Gregorio Rosales was born and raised near Mexico City in the State of Mexico. He earned his DVM from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1979, followed by early field practice in broiler breeders until 1981. Subsequently, Gregorio completed a Master of Science degree at the University of Georgia in 1983. He returned to his alma mater in Mexico City, where he served as an Associate Professor and Head of Poultry Diagnostic Services until 1985.

Gregorio sought to further advance his education at the University of Georgia’s PDRC, earning a Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology in 1988. He then served as the Director of Technical Services for Indian River International. In 1991, he joined Ross Breeders, now Aviagen, serving as a Staff Veterinarian, Director of Veterinary Services, and ultimately as Vice President of Veterinary Services from 1997 until his retirement in 2015. During his tenure, contributions were made to in-house diagnostic facilities, compliance with regulatory poultry health requirements, farm and feed biosecurity, Salmonella control programs, the eradication of ALV-J, avian influenza prevention and control, the control of adenovirus and chicken anemia virus, and the management and prevention of reproductive disorders in broiler breeders.

Gregorio authored or co-authored several reports in refereed journals, wrote a few chapters in books and manuals on avian diseases, and published numerous articles on disease prevention, health monitoring, and biosecurity programs in trade journals and conference proceedings. Additionally, supported by practical knowledge gained in the field and international experience, he wrote and edited several technical bulletins on the prevention and control of diseases in broiler breeders and broilers, which were distributed worldwide.

His professional affiliations include active membership in the American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP), where he has received the Special
Service Award (2012), the Lasher-Bottorff Award (2018), and the Life Member Award (2024). As a Diplomate of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians since 1992, he has served on various committees and was granted Emeritus Status in 2022.

Additionally, he played a significant role in developing regulatory programs for the USDA’s National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP), including the Avian Influenza Clean Compartment and Auditor Certification initiatives. His dedication and contributions to the industry were recognized with the Lamplighter Award from the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association in 2015.
