Avian Diseases Guidelines for Authors

The editors will consider manuscripts in the field of avian diseases. Manuscripts should be submitted on-line at the website: Directions for submitting manuscripts are available below. For assistance, contact the Editorial Office Support Manager, Janece Bevans-Kerr. Tel: (904)425-5735; Email:

Avian Diseases will consider only original manuscripts not published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Abstracts printed as a part of the program of a meeting will not be considered as a prior publication. However, if the text, tables, and figures appear to be the same as that published elsewhere, Avian Diseases will not consider the manuscript.

All manuscripts are reviewed by one or more members of the Editorial Board or other persons selected by the editor. A page charge for each printed page or part thereof is assessed on each article appearing in Avian Diseases. The page charge is $67 for current AAAP members and $100 for non-AAAP members. Under special circumstances, page charges may be waived by the AAAP. Requests for a waiver may be made by providing detailed explanation in the cover letter that accompanies the submitted manuscript. Authors are responsible for the cost of color illustrations.  Once the invoice is received, pages charges may be paid securely online by credit card here.

Avian Diseases is copyrighted by the American Association of Avian Pathologists and authors must sign a copyright transfer form before articles are published. U.S. Government employees are exempt from this requirement if the work is considered part of their official duties.

All articles accepted for publication are posted on-line shortly after acceptance, prior to editorial revisions made by a copy-editor. “Prior to print” articles may be accessed here.

Please see Author Guidelines for the complete instructions on submitting a manuscript.
