AAAP Spring 2025 Program Committee Letter

Dear AAAP Members,

Welcome to Portland for this year’s AAAP Annual Meeting! Building on last year’s success, we’re excited to bring you a dynamic event that’s a day shorter but packed with a mix of in-person and virtual presentations. Our scientific program is brimming with timely and practical sessions, covering a wide array of topics.

We’re thrilled to announce our Keynote Speaker, Mr. Mike Donohue, former Vice-President of Agri-Stats, Inc. He’ll kick off the meeting with his insightful presentation, “How Continuous Incremental Advances in Broiler Performance Have Affected Costs of Production and Broiler Availability Over the Last Forty-Five Years.” Mike, a seasoned expert in poultry economics, will also delve into the recent impacts of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and Avian Metapneumovirus (aMPV) on the poultry industry.

Beyond the keynote and scientific program, attendees can look forward to a variety of presentations and symposiums. The AAAP Food Safety Committee has curated the Preharvest Poultry Food Safety Symposium, offering updates and insights on Wednesday. This symposium features a lineup of experts in poultry food safety. Additionally, the H5 Task Force Committee has organized a special mini symposium on Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, providing crucial updates on the ongoing HPAI crisis. Members are also highly encouraged to attend the History Lecture and AWN lunch, which will feature highly regarded and noteworthy presenters.

On behalf of the scientific program committee, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all speakers and attendees for their participation. This year, our program committee, including myself and two newly appointed core members (Yuko Sato, Milos Markis) along with associated members (Travis Schaal, Joel Kline, Kayla Niel), had the honor of reviewing over 300 abstracts. The surge in abstract submissions has enabled us to craft a robust and diverse scientific program. Balancing clinically relevant and practical field cases with cutting-edge research is no small feat, but our committee is dedicated to delivering a meeting that exceeds your expectations. We hope this year’s program will be both educational and fulfilling for all attendees. I look forward to seeing you in Portland!
