Tahseen Abdul-Aziz 
Born: 1954 

Dr. Tahseen Abdul-Aziz (also known as Tahseen Aziz) was born in Baghdad, Iraq. He attended the College of Veterinary Medicine, Baghdad University where he received his Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) degree in 1977. He completed his graduate work in veterinary pathology, with focus on poultry pathology, at Iowa State University and received his M.S. in 1981 and Ph.D. in 1984. He was the first graduate student of Dr. H. John Barnes, a renowned poultry pathologistHe attained Diplomate status in the American College of Poultry Veterinarians (ACPV) in 1998. 

His 35-year career in poultry health is a mix of academia, clinical poultry medicine, and diagnostic poultry pathologyAfter obtaining his Ph.D., he returned to Iraq and joined the faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Baghdad University, where he taught poultry diseases and pathology to undergraduate and graduate students. In 1991, he joined the faculty of College of Veterinary Medicine, Jordan University of Science and Technology. He immigrated to Canada in 1994 and worked in the private sector of the poultry industry. He moved to the USA in 1999 as the Director of Veterinary Laboratory Services for British United Turkeys of America in Lewisburg, West Virginia. In 2005, he accepted the position of avian pathologist with the North Carolina Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory System.  

Tahseen’s current interest is diagnostic avian pathology (gross and histopathology). His passion and mission are to spread knowledge of poultry diseases and avian pathology and to educate veterinarians and veterinary pathologists throughout the worldHe has travelled to different countries as speaker in workshops and conferences. He is the first coauthor of the book Gross Pathology of Avian Diseases: Text and Atlas, as well as coauthor and associate editor of the 3rd edition and coauthor and editor of the 4th edition of Avian Histopathology. Both books were published by the American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP). He wrote the AAAP educational material Multiple-Choice Questions in Poultry Medicine and coauthored four AAAP study sets. He has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals, and 40 articles in poultry trade magazines. In 2019, he created the Facebook group “Avian Pathology and Poultry Diseases. The group has grown to over 3,000 members and become an international platform to share and spread knowledge on the topic. Tahseen is often consulted by pathologists and poultry veterinarians around the world for second opinions on gross and histopathologic lesions in avian species and on the diagnosis of poultry diseases. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was frequently invited to present webinars on the pathology and diagnosis of poultry diseases. 

Tahseen lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with his wife of 42 years, Ghazala, who has stood by and supported him during his adventurous personal life and professional career. They have two daughters, Katie and Mays, and one grandson, Christopher. He and Ghazala enjoy travelling to and exploring different countries. He is an avid amateur photographer and enjoys watching soccer.
